American Vintage celebrates 20 years with an anniversary collection that’s subtly offbeat and totally alluring.

Our approach was almost scientific,” says American Vintage founder Michaël Azoulay of the brand’s 20th Anniversary Collections, which features two seasonal drops this summer and fall. “We explored, we experimented, and we pushed the products to the max to make a lasting impression.”
Mission accomplished.
The line oozes with signature American Vintage attributes. There are the colorways: ecru, blue, celadon, mocha, sage green, butter yellow and pastel pink (intentionally missing: black.) The fabrics: The trademark “washed” feel. The second-skin softness of “feminized” cotton. Adding to the allure: Unisex, patches, maximalism and family-friendly. “I have to admit that I’m not a big fan of pure black. Our pieces are all about simplicity, lightness,” he says.

Contrary to what its name suggests, American Vintage is a French-based, globally influenced fashion brand with a striking mix of silhouettes. Since its founding, Azoulay has designed perennial pieces at the intersection of Californian cool and South-of-France flair. “
American Vintage debuted its exclusive Orange County store at Fashion Island last year, stocking punched-up pieces for women, men and children, ages 3–13. So, yes, joie de vivre for the whole family.
