Mermaid’s Tale

1970s
When Fashion Island opened in 1967, it made a splash. Before koi glided and fountains danced, the story began with our mermaid logo. Her hair was stylishly seaswept. Her colorblocked fins cut a striking silhouette. In one glance, she captured our endless-summer attitude as the West Coast’s first indoor-outdoor shopping destination. Today, “A Mermaid’s Tale,” a seasonal art installation near Nordstrom Courtyard, invites guests to linger, shimmer, and snap a slice of coastal magic.
